Canon: a body of principles, rules, standards, or norms

Decolonization: the act or practice of decolonizing

Design history: the study of objects of design in their historical and stylistic contexts, including the social, cultural, economic, political, technical, and the aesthetic.

Dialectic: discussion or reasoning by dialogue as a method of intellectual investigation; specifically, the Socratic techniques of exposing false beliefs and eliciting truth

Good design: "Good design is not just what looks good. It also needs to perform, convert, astonish, and fulfil its purpose. It can be innovative or it might just get the job done" (Anders Toxboe)

Hegemony: the social, cultural, ideological, or economic influence exerted by a dominant group

Intersectionality: the complex, cumulative wave in which the effects of multiple forms of discrimination (such as racism, sexism, classism) combine, overlap, or intersect especially in the experiences of marginalized individuals or groups

Marginalized histories: (of a person, group, or concept) treated as insignificant or peripheral

Phallocentric: centred on or emphasising the masculine viewpoint; ideology that the phallus is the central element in the organisation of the social world

Visual culture: the aspect of culture expressed in visual images
